Comprehensive Guide to EVA Foam: Applications, Benefits, and Production

EVA Foam Molding

EVA foam molding is a common plastic foaming technology primarily used to manufacture various packaging materials, footwear components, toys, and more. EVA foam materials exhibit excellent cushioning, softness, thermal insulation, and water resistance, making them widely applicable across multiple fields.

Main Components

The primary ingredient in EVA foam is EVA resin, which is an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer. To enhance the physical properties of the product, other materials such as rubber and POE (polyolefin elastomer) can be added. The VA (vinyl acetate) content in EVA is a critical indicator, affecting the performance of the foamed products.

Additives

In EVA foam formulations, fillers like calcium carbonate or talcum powder are typically used to reduce costs and increase product rigidity. The foaming agents are generally high-temperature foaming agents from the AC series, such as AC-3000H, though low and medium-temperature foaming agents are also available. Cross-linking agents often used include DCP (dicumyl peroxide). For products with special odor requirements, BIPB (bis(isopropyl)benzene) and TAIC (triallyl isocyanurate) can be used in combination. Foam promoters include zinc oxide powder and zinc stearate powder, while lubricants commonly used are stearic acid, which primarily serves to lubricate and prevent the mixture from sticking to the machinery during processing.

Process Characteristics

EVA foam materials have a rich microcellular structure that can effectively absorb and disperse external impacts, protecting packaged items from damage. Their softness and thermal insulation make them easy to process into various shapes, meeting different packaging needs. Additionally, EVA foam materials have good moisture stability, making them resistant to dampness and deformation, which is beneficial for long-term storage and use.

In summary, EVA foam materials occupy an important position in plastic foaming technology due to their excellent properties and wide range of applications. By adjusting formulations and process parameters, the performance of EVA foam materials can be further optimized to meet the demands of more application scenarios.
